You can't get traffic on an old posts... you have to get the numbers on something that was written within the month. This works out to having an established audience, getting picked up by aggregators like TechMeme, etc. If you have a great post that is two months old but tops on Google for a lot of search results, getting dugg, etc then it won't bring you to the Wordpress top spots.
