Daniel: it will be interesting to see how they do it - it has the potential to be an absolute minefield. My bet is they get a lot tougher with video content.

Massif: yeah, none of us know anything really ;)

tom: good points, it won't be easy to sort out. I imagine the Google folk have been working hard to come up with solutions to pluf those holes. They have click fraud issues already so maybe they know how to handle it.

is this revenue sharing really going to amount to more than a token for the bit player? people are already posting other people's content like crazy, how can that get sorted out? paying by "view" will obviously generate new click-fraud opportunities. it's got to be a gimmick or else it'll just be a hassle (for everyone).

nostrathomas is predicting that the future of "online video" is near complete ownership of everything by the major media (which now includes google and yahoo, etc ...), and that youtube is just another example of an early gold rush stage, a little bubble in time. and who isn't a bit sick and tired of shit like "girl falling off a motorcycle" anyway?

I think it may backfire, as they'll be inundated with more professional outfits; which will put off the kind of people who want random shit.

Which is a shame, because it's the random shit people who so often turn into contributers. But then, I didn't think anyone in their right mind would value a search engine at $15bn, and that a dual-screen handheld games console was a bit of a gimmick, that £200 was a ridiculous amount to pay for something which plays music, that no-one would ever buy video through iTunes and that 512kbps was more than enough bandwidth for anyone. (oh, and that our 486 didn't need anything more than 4MB of memory.)

I expected them to, but not so soon. I think "my TV network" will be able to compete with true Swedish content and higher quality both content and bideo quality wise, though, so - I'm in a safe house of more traditional TV broadcasting.

A big blow to the others, though, I believe. Though I believe Google's offerings will be rather poor.
