Say it isn’t so: a survey has revealed widespread ignorance amongst Australians regarding Indonesia. For those who don’t know, Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim nation and is extremely important to the politics in this part of the world. It would be nice if a few more people were at least slightly informed about things.
On the plus side (or at least providing a balance) about the same number of Indonesians displayed a similar level of ignorance about Australia. Apparently a big concern was that Australians wanted West Papua to gain freedom from Indonesian occupation and control. Trust me guys, most Australian don’t know a damn thing about West Papua – a public outcry in support of the oppressed peoples is the last thing you have to worry about.
