Cory Delaney, party boy, is an idiot. The media are BIGGER IDIOTS

Sadly, this travesty of a non-story seems to have travelled around the world.  A 16 year old is allowed to “stay with friends while his mum and step dad go on a holiday.  Nothing should go wrong because he’s sternly told “no parties”.  Yeah, that’ll work.  The inevitable happens and the kid organises a party.

Except this particular knucklehead youthful arrogance and a complete inability to understand the concept of consequences and couples that with modern communications.  He’s actually stupid enough to announce the party and give out his home address on MySpace.  The predictable outcome ensues – a huge crowd shows up, the party gets out of control and the cops are called.

At this point, most people are probably thinking “been there, done that” (apart from the MySpace debacle).  Not quite.  The cops say there were 500 people (that’s a suspicious round number – I strongly suspect it’s bullshit).  The crowd was described as violent (riotous if you believe some reports) and the cops called in the dog squad and helicopter to disperse them.

This still wouldn’t have been a particularly unusual story if it wasn’t for the media angle.  One of the particularly cretinous tabloid “current affairs” shows decided it was their moral duty to publicly humiliate a 16 year old.  Yeah, way to take the moral high ground.  The intent was bad enough but when you couple that with a host who’s too incompetent to get the better of a none too bright kid, well, it devolves into the realm of deeply pathetic.

Predictably, the interview clip was a huge hit on YouTube.  If you haven’t seen it already, check it out and see who you think comes off as the bigger idiot:

While I’m not a fan of self-absorbed teenagers who seem to have been coddled their whole lives and have never been bothered with anything so tiresome as having to face the consequences of their actions, I really hate shitty media outlets.  I mean, seriously, an irresponsible 16 year old?  That’s a news story?  And the media wonder why they have all the credibility of a used car salesman.

You’re right, what an idiot. I feel bad for his parents because they’re probably going to be stuck with that fool living in their basement until he’s 30! But I think as far as who is a bigger idiot- it’s the news anchor because she allowed that little snot to push her buttons.

  2. it’s only “news” cos the “current affairs” folks gave him airtime. seems to me there’s a lot of idiots involved in this scenario…

When I saw the kid I actually went “What. The. F*ck?”
You should count the parents among the idiots. Not only did they raise a slack-jawed hippie reject, but they left him alone in the house?!
I mean look at him, he looks like an ad for contraception.

Teenagers very stupid, barely behind entertainment news in stupidity. In other news, Britney Spears is crazy and there’s a presidential election looming in the US. Oh, and Tom Cruise. I think that it may be a conspiracy to subdue the intelligent minority by inducing debilitating migraines.

Oh, for the love of all that’s sacred and holy– this crap has reached the American Fox News Blast podcast!

Because, you know, it’s not like there wasn’t a major Republican primary yesterday in South Carolina or a big war going on in Iraq or anything. And it’s not like the economy’s not in a state of slow collapse or the bottom’s falling out of the dollar or anything. Or we don’t have our own crazy whackjobs to make fun of.

Jeez, the kid looks like a saint next to that dipwit reporter. I fear for humanity. Really, I do.

I’d fascinated to know why people think this kid is a loser destined for unemployment.

He successfully organised a major party, which was well attended (although some reports say it was his friends who spread the details in cyberspace, unbeknownst to him), he created a consistent media image and look in 24 hours that he has held too in all appearances since, and held his own in interviews against the baying media hounds. All done at the age of 16.

I would think that all of this shows admirable qualities that any employer worth their salt would value.

All in all, this kid is a larrikin, a prized Australian trait. He is displaying all that represents the ANZAC spirit: no respect for authority, battling on against the odds even when an idiot would know you were doomed, and sticking by your mates. To not support him is un-Australian.

  7. Matt from the water place

I left out one bit of the ANZAC spirit, running away when it gets too hard. Like our brave soldiers who slunk of in the middle of the night, Corey didn’t go home for days.

You should have done a montage to put yourself in place of that woman in the upper video. Or in place of the boy. Or both…

  9. I started to watch the interview clip, felt dirty about 3 seconds in and decided against it.

  10. Beavis lives…. in Melbourne.

That news anchor is an idiot. I saw her interviews when I was living in Sydney and always wondered how did she ever get beyond cash register duties.

someone shoot this bastard already so we can get on with our lives

  12. DOA

I showed the tv clip to a friend of mine this Friday. He sat through it with a half-smile on his face until the end. I thought it was kind of weird he didn’t find it as ridiculous as I did. Then he went “Oh, wait, that wasn’t a spoof clip? That guy was for real?!”

  13. Caleb Ubersox

The only bigger joke than that kid getting on tv is that people actually watch this stupid angryaussie…..what a joke, he’s 16 trying to get attention, your like 40 with no life

  14. "Dave"

this guy is a fricken loser.. get a life corey!!!

  15. Shepack

I love this kid. He pissed all of you off so much. He wanted attention you gave it to him. I think you are all the dumb asses. Funny as hell we need more Corys in this world so you all got something to bitch about.

  16. Fan For Sure

This guy is a legend! I’m surprised your blog is reporting on a “non-story” such as this. Why would that be? Hmm…

  17. To clarify:

16 year old doing something stupid = non-story.

Media blowing it out of all proportion and ending up being made to look like tools by a none-too-bright 16 year old = something worth talking about.

I recall something like this happening in the UK a couple of years ago, a girl posting an open invitation on MySpace, house gets wrecked, parents disown daughter blah blah blah….
my take: If you don’t know YOUR OWN CHILD well enough to have a smidgeon of an inkling that there will be a party if you leave them home alone, that child should probably be in state-care anyway. Parents = idiots, kids = too young to understand consequences, media = pwned. I totally agree that “16 year old throws party while folks are away” is an utter non-story.

  19. What tickles me is this guy is far from the best and brightest of his generation yet his media savvy made the highly paid (and sleeping with the boss – seriously) host of a national “currect affairs” show look like an idiot.
